Soreang is the administrative centre of Bandung Regency in West Java. It lies on the southern side of the Bandung basin, where the land begins to rise toward the volcanic highlands. From above the town is a network of streets surrounded by rice fields and villages, with steep green slopes filling the horizon.
The main road through town carries most of the traffic and commercial activity, and denser neighbourhoods have grown along it. Around them, smaller lanes wind between houses, paddies and small streams. Government offices serving the regency give the centre a more open, planned character in places.
