Taastrup lies west of Copenhagen in Høje-Taastrup Municipality, along one of the rail corridors of the capital's Finger Plan. From above, the railway runs east to west through the town, and the S-train and regional stations serve as focal points. Around them are modernist housing estates, detached-house neighbourhoods with curving streets and business areas laid out on broader plots.
The Finger Plan concentrated growth along railway lines and kept green wedges between them, and Taastrup shows that idea clearly. The built-up area stretches along the tracks, while open land and parks begin not far to the sides. Major motorways pass through the municipality, adding long, sweeping curves that stand out against the smaller residential streets.
