Thakurdwara is a town in Moradabad district in the north of Uttar Pradesh, just south of the state boundary with Uttarakhand. Its name is a term used across northern India for a temple dedicated to Vishnu or Krishna. On the map the town forms a single tight cluster, with lanes packed densely around a few main roads and very little open space inside the built-up area.
Outside the town the plain opens up in every direction. This is productive farmland, and the map shows it as a patchwork of small fields, tracks and villages, each village a compact dot linked to its neighbours by narrow roads.
