Tirunāgeswaram lies in the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu, a short distance from Kumbakonam, in the heart of the Cauvery delta. The land is flat and fertile, crossed by irrigation channels and dotted with water tanks. The town is known above all for its Naganathaswamy temple, one of the Navagraha shrines, dedicated to Rahu and visited by pilgrims from across South India.
