Tonga is a town in the West Region of Cameroon, in the highlands of the Bamiléké plateau. The region is green, hilly and well watered, and the town's layout follows the land, with main roads through the centre and smaller streets and paths branching toward neighbourhoods and farms.
In this part of Cameroon, settlement is often spread out, with houses and compounds set among fields and patches of forest rather than packed into dense blocks. From above, this creates a soft, irregular pattern, with built areas and cultivation mixed together.
