Ţorqabeh lies a short distance northwest of Mashhad in Razavi Khorasan, in north-eastern Iran. It sits where the plain around the city meets the slopes of the Binalud mountains, and its map reflects that transition: a more regular layout on lower ground, and roads that narrow and bend as they follow valleys up into the hills.
The town is known as a green retreat for people from Mashhad, particularly in summer, when the higher, cooler valleys draw visitors to gardens, orchards, restaurants and holiday homes. Together with neighbouring Shandiz, it forms a popular area for day trips out of the city, and much of its development reflects that role.
