Ucuma is a town in Huambo province, on the high central plateau of Angola, an area of rolling upland well over a thousand metres above sea level. The town's streets gather in a compact core, and on a map they give way quickly to farmland, tracks and small settlements scattered across the gently undulating landscape of the planalto.
The surrounding land is largely agricultural, and the pattern it leaves on a map is loose and irregular: footpaths and unpaved roads linking homesteads, fields and neighbouring villages, with streams running through shallow valleys.
