Unaizah is one of the principal towns of the Al-Qassim region in central Saudi Arabia, a short distance south of Buraydah. It developed as an oasis and trading town in the Najd, and on a map it appears as a large modern city surrounded by irregular blocks of farmland and palm groves, with stretches of sand beyond the cultivated land.
Date palms are central to Unaizah's identity, and the town hosts a well-known annual date festival. It has also long been noted for its merchants and scholars, and early twentieth-century travellers described it as one of the most cultivated towns of Najd. The Wadi al-Rummah, one of the longest valleys in Arabia, passes nearby.
