União is a town in northern Piauí, north-east of Teresina, in the valley of the Parnaíba River, which forms the border between Piauí and Maranhão. The land around it is low and fairly open, and the town appears on the map as a compact centre with roads extending into the countryside.
The urban core has a simple, readable street pattern, with a central area of closer blocks and a looser arrangement toward the edges. Around it, the landscape is drawn with little detail: scattered tracks, small watercourses and open fields that frame the town and leave space around it.
