Unzen Map Poster & Print
Unzen city covers much of the Shimabara Peninsula in Nagasaki Prefecture. It was formed in 2005 when several towns merged, and its shape is set by the volcano at its centre. Mount Unzen rises in the middle of the peninsula. Coastal settlements run around its lower edges, and the roads between them either follow the shoreline or wind uphill towards the peaks.
High on the mountain is Unzen Onsen, a hot-spring resort known for its steaming fumaroles, locally called jigoku, or hells. The area lies within Unzen-Amakusa National Park, one of the first national parks designated in Japan, in 1934. The volcano is still active: an eruption in the early 1990s produced pyroclastic flows that are still remembered across the peninsula.
A Unzen map poster captures a rare combination: sea on several sides, a mountain in the middle, and a thin band of streets and fields between them. Drawn in monochrome, the switchback roads and coastlines make a strong composition. It suits people who hiked the peaks, stayed at the springs or grew up by the shore below.

Hot-spring village
Unzen Onsen sits high on the mountain. Its small cluster of streets is reached by winding roads that stand out clearly on the print.
Two coastlines
The city's land meets the sea on different sides of the peninsula, so smooth shorelines frame the map and set off the busier inland pattern.

Mapu okhala ndi tanthauzo
Visitors often come to Unzen for the hot springs and leave with a strong memory of the mountain roads and sea views. A map brings back that trip in a calm, understated way. The subtitle can name the inn or the date of the stay.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be changed. The print comes in five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Noir works well for a volcanic landscape, while Paper gives it the feel of an old survey map.
