Vattalkundu, often written Batlagundu, is a town in Dindigul district, Tamil Nadu, at the base of the Palani Hills. It is widely known as the point where travellers leave the plains for the ghat road up to Kodaikanal, and that position between flat country and rising hills shapes its map.
The town centre forms a compact grid of market streets and residential lanes along the main highway. To the west and north the ground begins to climb, and roads start to wind as they head toward the hills, while farmland and small water tanks stretch across the lowlands on the other side.
