Vondrozo lies in the Atsimo-Atsinanana region of southeastern Madagascar, inland from the coast. On a map it appears as a small settlement. A few streets and paths gather around a centre, and a road links it toward the coastal towns. Around it the land is hilly, divided by rivers and streams, with rice fields in the valleys.
The area west of the town includes parts of a humid forest corridor, one of the stretches of eastern rainforest that still remain in the region. Most people here live by farming, and the town serves as a local administrative centre for the surrounding rural communes and villages.

The main road runs from the town toward the coastal region. It is the clearest line on the map and ties Vondrozo to the rest of the province.
