Wasaga Beach lies on Nottawasaga Bay, at the southern end of Georgian Bay in Ontario. Its defining feature is the beach itself, about fourteen kilometres of sand, often described as the longest freshwater beach in the world. On a map the shoreline is a long, smooth curve, and the town stretches thinly along it.
Just behind the beach, the Nottawasaga River runs parallel to the shore for a long distance before reaching the bay. Streets and cottage lots fill the land between the river, the sand and the inland roads. In the river sits Nancy Island, with a historic site dedicated to the schooner HMS Nancy from the War of 1812.
