Williamstown is the main community of Monroe Township in Gloucester County, in the southern part of New Jersey. Its map combines two very different patterns: an older centre built around long-established regional roads, and newer residential developments that spread out from it in curving streets, loops and cul-de-sacs laid over former farmland and woods.
The area sits at the edge of the New Jersey Pinelands, and stretches of pine and oak forest still separate one neighbourhood from the next. Lakes and streams appear across the township, and the roads running out of town head towards Philadelphia to the northwest and the Atlantic shore to the southeast.
