Woodridge is a village in the western suburbs of Chicago, set among Downers Grove, Lisle, Darien and Bolingbrook. It was incorporated in the mid-twentieth century and grew as a planned suburb. Most of its homes went up in successive subdivisions rather than around a single historic main street, so the town reads as a collection of neighbourhoods, each planned in the style of its decade.
The map makes this plain. Curving residential streets wrap around retention ponds and neighbourhood parks, and the expressways cut clean diagonal and straight lines across the region, one of them close to the village's eastern side. Larger arterial roads form a loose frame, and inside each cell of that frame the streets loop and bend into their own patterns.
