Xalatlaco sits high in the State of Mexico, on the uplands between the Toluca Valley and the mountains that separate it from Mexico City. From above, the town reads as a tight cluster of blocks around a central square, with streets thinning out into long, narrow agricultural plots before the land rises and the fields give way to forest.
