Yahotyn lies in the east of Kyiv Oblast, on the flat lowland east of the Dnipro. The most striking feature on its map is the large pond formed on the Supiy River, a long body of water that runs past the town and gives it a clear, calm edge. Streets spread from its shore in a mostly regular pattern of blocks and long garden plots.
The town has a long history as an estate town. In the 19th century the Repnin family's manor stood here, and the poet Taras Shevchenko stayed with them in 1843, a visit remembered in local history. Parts of the former estate grounds remain as green space near the water.
