Yamuna Nagar forms a single urban area with the older town of Jagadhri in northern Haryana, close to where the Yamuna leaves the Shivalik foothills for the plains. The Western Yamuna Canal, one of the oldest irrigation canals in the region, runs through the city, and on the map its straight course cuts across the street pattern as the clearest line on the sheet.
