Yebaishou is the seat of Jianping County in Chaoyang, in the western part of Liaoning province. This corner of northeastern China is hilly and relatively dry, with low mountains and uplands close to the border with Inner Mongolia. The town sits on lower valley ground, where there is enough flat land for streets and fields.
On a map the town is compact and fairly regular. Main roads run through it in a few clear directions, and smaller streets fill the blocks between them. Beyond the edge of town, the terrain becomes more broken, and roads follow valleys and ridges toward the villages of the county.
