Yulong is a town within the municipality of Chongqing, in the hilly country west of the central city. This part of Chongqing is made up of low, rounded hills and narrow valleys. Farms, terraced fields and small reservoirs occupy almost every available piece of land, and on a map that terrain shapes everything.
The town's streets gather where the ground is flattest, usually along a valley floor or a main road. From there the built-up area follows the contours rather than a grid. Roads curve around hillsides to reach villages and neighbouring towns, and ponds and small water bodies scatter across the countryside between them.
