Zhukovka is a small town in Bryansk Oblast, north-west of the regional capital, on the Desna River. The town developed around a railway station. From above you can still see this in the way the streets line up with the tracks, which cut a long, straight line through the built-up area and set its main orientation.
The Desna brings a softer element into the plan. Its meandering course and floodplain meadows contrast with the regular blocks of low-rise housing and the few larger apartment districts. Beyond the town, the map opens onto the forests and fields typical of the Bryansk region. Here the street grid thins out quickly into country roads.

The Desna loops past the town through a wide floodplain. Its curves and oxbows add an organic contrast to the orderly street pattern.
