Valley-floor streets
The main streets run along the lower ground where the land is flattest, giving the town an elongated shape rather than the square outline typical of towns on the plains.

Jiasi Map Poster & Print
Jiasi lies in the south-western part of Chongqing municipality, in the hilly country south of the Yangtze River. The terrain here is folded into ridges and valleys, and there is little flat land to build on. On the map the town fits itself into that topography, with streets following the valley floors and bending around slopes instead of forming a regular grid.
Chongqing is known for building on steep ground, and even its small towns share that character. Roads zigzag up hillsides, terraced fields step down the slopes, and streams cut through the lower ground. Around Jiasi the built-up core soon gives way to farmland and wooded hills, with rural roads threading between scattered hamlets.
A Jiasi map poster turns this landscape into a pattern of compact streets and winding lines. In black and white the town appears as a dense cluster held in place by the terrain around it, and the curving rural roads beyond show how thoroughly the hills set the terms for everything built here.

Winding hill roads
Roads leaving town curve and switch back across the slopes, drawing loose, looping lines that contrast with the compact centre.
Rural surroundings
Farmland, small hamlets and wooded ridges surround the town, a mix that is typical of the countryside across this part of Chongqing.
