Akyurt is a district of Ankara Province, on the open Anatolian plateau north-east of the Turkish capital. It was once a small agricultural settlement and has grown steadily as the metropolitan area pushed outward. The map now shows a compact older centre surrounded by newer housing blocks, industrial sites and broad arterial roads.
The town lies close to Esenboğa International Airport, Ankara's main air gateway. The runways and access roads form a distinctive geometric presence in the wider area.
