Baoxing sits in the rolling hill country of western Chongqing, in the Dazu area, a landscape of low ridges, shallow valleys and carefully terraced fields. On a map, the town's streets follow the valley floors, and the built-up area stretches along a few main roads instead of spreading out evenly.
