Batu Feringgi lies on the northern coast of Penang Island, and its map is shaped by a narrow strip of land between sea and hills. A single coastal road runs along the shore, and most of the buildings line it, forming a thin, elongated settlement. On one side the beach curves along the Andaman Sea, on the other the land rises steeply into wooded hills.
The beach is one of the best known on the island, lined with hotels and resorts, and in the evenings a night market sets up along the main road. To the west the coast becomes quieter and more rugged, leading toward Penang National Park, while to the east the road continues toward Tanjung Bungah and George Town.
