Bexbach lies in the Saarpfalz district in the east of Saarland, close to Homburg and the border with Rhineland-Palatinate. The town brings together several formerly separate villages. From above it appears as a series of built-up areas strung along valleys and joined by roads, with forest and farmland filling the spaces between.
Coal mining shaped much of the area's development.
