Bobingen lies in Bavarian Swabia, just south of Augsburg, on the terraces above the Wertach valley. From above, the town follows the north–south grain of the landscape. The river and its wooded banks run along one side, a railway line runs parallel through the centre, and residential streets fill the land in between.
The Bobingen map poster reflects that linear structure. The Wertach draws a long, gently curving line, with meadows and woodland strips beside it. The streets run mostly parallel to it, crossed by roads heading east and west. An extensive industrial area forms a distinct block with larger, simpler shapes than the surrounding neighbourhoods.
Bobingen became an industrial town in the twentieth century, when a large synthetic-fibre plant was built here. The industrial park still shapes part of its map.
