Bokoro is in the Hadjer-Lamis province of western Chad, in the Sahel zone between the Sahara to the north and the wetter savanna to the south. The land is flat and dry for much of the year. On a map, the town is a cluster of streets and compounds set in a wide, open landscape.
The street pattern is loose and practical. Wide sandy roads divide the town into irregular blocks, and walled family compounds fill those blocks. The main road to N'Djamena and to towns further east is the dominant line. Tracks lead out in other directions toward villages and grazing land, fading into the plain.
