Carmichael is an unincorporated community in Sacramento County, north-east of downtown Sacramento. It takes its name from Daniel Carmichael, who bought and subdivided the land in the early 20th century, originally as farm colonies. That history still shows in the map: large lots, irregular streets and a relaxed, low-density pattern.
The American River runs along the community's southern edge, with parkland and trails following its banks. Ancil Hoffman Park and the river parkway make a wide green band that contrasts with the fine grain of residential streets.
