Conceição is a town in the far west of Paraíba, in the Brazilian sertão, the dry interior of the Northeast. From above, the town is a compact, mostly regular street grid with a central square and church at its heart. Around it, open backland country stretches in every direction, crossed by a handful of roads and seasonal watercourses.
As in many sertão towns, the central area holds the church, market and main commercial streets, and neighbourhoods have grown outward over time in fairly straight blocks. The surrounding land is used for small farms and grazing. On the map, it appears as wide, calm space with occasional tracks and small reservoirs.
