Two rivers
The Tunca and Meriç wrap around the city in broad curves, framing the old town with water and leaving open islands of meadow and farmland between their channels.

Edirne Map Poster & Print
Edirne lies in the far north-west of Turkey, close to the borders with Greece and Bulgaria. Its setting on the map is defined by rivers. The Tunca loops around the western and southern sides of the old town, and the wider Meriç flows just beyond. The two meet south-west of the city among floodplain fields and lines of trees.
The historic centre sits on slightly higher ground, a web of irregular streets gathered around the great mosques and bazaars. Edirne was the Ottoman capital before the conquest of Constantinople. Mimar Sinan's Selimiye Mosque, which he considered his masterpiece, rises at its heart and is listed by UNESCO together with its complex.
Stone bridges carry roads across the Tunca and the Meriç, and every summer the city hosts Kırkpınar, the historic oil-wrestling festival held on the meadows nearby. An Edirne map poster brings the curving rivers, the tight old town and the long bridges together in one composition, with the border country opening out on every side.

Edirne means a lot to Trakya University students, to families from Thrace and to travellers who came for Selimiye or Kırkpınar. Its river-bound plan is one of the most recognisable in Turkey, and it looks striking on a wall.
