Gaggenau follows the Murg as the river leaves the northern Black Forest and heads toward the Rhine plain. From above, the town reads as a long ribbon: a main road and a railway line tracing the valley floor, with side streets climbing briefly into the hills before the forest takes over. Industry shaped this valley for centuries.
