Goz Beida is the capital of the Sila region in eastern Chad, not far from the border with Sudan. From above, it has a loose, low-density layout typical of towns in the Sahel. The town is widely known for its role in humanitarian response. Since the mid-2000s, it has been a base for aid operations serving people displaced by conflict in the region, as well as refugees from Darfur who live in nearby camps.
