Inhuma is a small town in the centre-south of Piauí, in the semi-arid interior of north-eastern Brazil. From above, the town forms a compact cluster of blocks with a central area and streets that extend outward along the main roads, before giving way to dry scrubland and farm plots.
The surrounding landscape belongs to the sertão, where the climate is dry for much of the year and the vegetation is low and scattered. Small reservoirs and seasonal streams appear as pale shapes on the map, and roads cross the countryside to connect Inhuma with neighbouring towns.
