Jorat is a settlement administered by Sumqayit, on the northern side of the Absheron Peninsula in Azerbaijan. It lies close to the Caspian shoreline, and on a map the coast forms a long, clean boundary, with the sea filling one side of the sheet and the land shaped by roads and low-rise housing on the other.
The Absheron landscape is flat and dry, and settlements here tend to spread out in rectilinear plots and walled courtyards rather than dense urban blocks.
