Kambar lies on the flat, irrigated plain west of the Indus in upper Sindh. The town has a compact core of streets and bazaars. Around it, farmland is divided by canals and watercourses, and straight roads lead toward neighbouring towns. On the map, the lines of the irrigation network are as important as the streets.
The town gives its name to Qambar Shahdadkot District, and it is not far from Larkana. The surrounding area depends heavily on the canal system fed by the Indus, which supports rice and other crops. Kambar serves as a local centre for markets, trade and services for the villages around it.
