Kangayam is a town in Tiruppur district in western Tamil Nadu, on the gently rolling, relatively dry upland between Tiruppur, Erode and Dharapuram. Several regional roads meet here, and on a map the town appears as a hub from which routes radiate across open country, the built-up area concentrated at the junction and thinning out along each road.
The name is known across India through the Kangayam breed of cattle, a hardy draught breed raised in the surrounding area and valued for its strength and endurance.
