Karaçoban is a district town in the southeast of Erzurum Province, near the border with Muş. It sits on the high plateau of eastern Anatolia at an altitude where winters are long and snowy. From above, it's a compact town surrounded by wide, treeless farmland and grazing land, with mountains on the horizon.
The street layout is simple and fairly regular: a main road runs through the centre, and residential blocks spread on either side of it. At the edges, streets give way to field tracks and paths across the plain. There's little on the map to break up the open land, which makes the town itself stand out clearly.
