Kāsganj is a town in western Uttar Pradesh and the headquarters of the district of the same name. It lies on the level alluvial plain of the Ganges basin, where farmland stretches in every direction. Towns here grow as dense knots of streets, linked across the fields by roads and railway lines.
On the map, the older part of town is a close mesh of narrow lanes and small blocks, and newer neighbourhoods stretch along the main roads in straighter lines. The land is very flat, so beyond the built area most of the detail comes from ponds, canals and field boundaries, with very little relief.
