Khānsār sits high in the Zagros Mountains of western Isfahan province, at well over two thousand metres. From above, the town fills a narrow valley. Lanes run along the slope, orchards and gardens soften the edges, and bare mountainsides rise steeply on either side. The layout depends on the ground rather than on any plan.
The town is known across Iran for its honey and for its cool summers. Nearby Golestan Kuh, a mountain meadow, blooms each spring with wild crown imperial flowers and draws visitors from far away. Khānsār also has its own dialect, one of the older regional speech forms of central Iran.
