Kishapu is the headquarters of Kishapu District, in the Shinyanga region of northern Tanzania, south of Lake Victoria. The surrounding country is broad and gently rolling and largely given over to farming and grazing, with cotton among the region's important crops. On a map, the town is a small core of streets set within a very wide, open landscape.
The district is also home to the Williamson diamond mine at Mwadui, a long-established mine that lies some distance from the town itself.
