The railway runs as a firm straight line past the town, and the streets gather around the station and the road leading to it.
The town is a railway junction, where a branch line leaves the main line toward the east. The surrounding landscape of south Gujarat is flat and fertile, farmed intensively with crops such as sugarcane.
