Lālī is a small city in the north of Khuzestan province, in the foothills of the Zagros. On a map, the town sits in a valley surrounded by ridges and dry hills, with its streets fitted into the available flat ground and roads winding out along valleys toward the neighbouring towns and villages.
The wider area is part of the oil-producing region of Khuzestan, which includes an oil field named after the town, and the landscape shows the long parallel ridges typical of the Zagros fold belt. Seasonal streams cut through the hills, and patches of farmland occupy the valley floors.
