Limbdi is in Surendranagar district, Gujarat, on the northeastern side of the Saurashtra peninsula. It was once the capital of a princely state of the same name, and that history is still visible in its layout. On the map, a dense old centre of narrow, winding lanes is surrounded by later, more regular development.
The surrounding plain is flat and mostly agricultural, and roads spread out from the town towards Surendranagar, Ahmedabad and other parts of Saurashtra. From above, a clear contrast emerges between the close texture of the historic core, the looser outer neighbourhoods and the open fields beyond.
