Malinyi is the administrative centre of Malinyi District in the Morogoro region of southern Tanzania. It lies in low, broad country associated with the Kilombero valley, where rivers spread across wide floodplains in the rainy season. The town itself is modest, a loose cluster of streets gathered around its main road and administrative centre.
On a map the landscape dominates. Roads leave town across flat, open ground, heading toward villages and farmland that depend on the valley's seasonal waters. Rivers and wetlands show as meandering lines and soft-edged areas. The scattered pattern of settlement follows the higher, drier ground.
