Mayuge is in the Eastern Region of Uganda, east of Jinja, near the northern shore of Lake Victoria. It is the main town of Mayuge District. The district also includes a large area of the lake and many of its islands, so water is a constant presence even though the town itself stands a short way inland.
The street network is modest: a main road through the centre, a small grid of commercial streets around the market, and residential lanes spreading into gardens and farmland. Sugarcane and food crops cover much of the surrounding land, so the areas between roads stay open and green.
