The Ribat
The fortress's strong rectilinear outline sits near the water's edge. Among the city's softer shapes, it is one of the most recognisable forms on the poster.

Monastir Map Poster & Print
Monastir lies on a small promontory on Tunisia's eastern coast, where the shore of the Sahel turns and points toward the sea. On a map, water surrounds the old centre on several sides. The compact medina sits just inland, and resort areas spread along the beaches to either side.
The city's best-known structure is the Ribat of Monastir, a fortress founded in the late eighth century as part of a chain of coastal defences. It is one of the oldest in the Maghreb. Monastir is also the birthplace of Habib Bourguiba, Tunisia's first president, and his mausoleum stands close to the ribat.
A Monastir map poster shows a coastal town in which each element has a clear role. Rectangular fort walls face the sea, the lanes of the medina are dense, the marina basin cuts into the coastline, and newer grids extend inland toward the airport. The small Kuriat islands lie offshore, beyond the frame of a typical city view.

Marina basin
A protected harbour cut into the shoreline makes a neat geometric shape of piers and quays. It contrasts with the natural curve of the coast.
Medina lanes
The old town's close, irregular streets form a dark cluster behind the seafront, clearly different from the wider streets of the modern districts.
