Nanshu is a town in eastern Shandong, on the inland part of the Jiaodong Peninsula between the Yellow Sea coasts. The landscape here is mostly low hills and farmland. On a map, the town has a compact centre where main roads meet, with streets and blocks arranged around it. Beyond that, the land breaks into a close pattern of fields and villages linked by narrow country roads.
The Jiaodong region is well known in China for its orchards and farming, especially fruit such as apples and pears. Small towns like Nanshu serve as market and service centres for the surrounding villages. The regular, cultivated look of the land shows up clearly from above as field boundaries and small clusters of houses.
