Naraura lies on the banks of the Ganges in Bulandshahr district, in western Uttar Pradesh. The river dominates its map: a wide, braided channel with sandbanks and shifting side streams. A barrage carries a road across it, and at the barrage the headworks of the Lower Ganga Canal send a large, straight channel off across the plain.
Naraura is best known for the Narora Atomic Power Station, one of India's nuclear power plants, which stands close to the river. Its planned township, with regular streets and residential blocks, contrasts with the older, denser layout of the town. Beyond them the flat Gangetic plain stretches away in fields crossed by canals.
