Ngora is in eastern Uganda, in the Teso sub-region, and serves as the administrative centre of Ngora District. From above, the town is modest in size. A handful of main roads meet at a small central area of shops and public buildings, and beyond that the streets quickly loosen into homesteads, gardens and cultivated plots.
The surrounding land is typical of Teso: gently undulating ground with occasional granite outcrops and low, seasonally wet areas that feed into the wider Lake Kyoga basin. On a map, these features appear as irregular gaps and soft outlines around the town, giving it an open, relaxed shape instead of a fixed boundary.
